1989 Gibson Les Paul Custom 35th Anniversary, Black
A beautiful one-owner example in stunning condition!
Released in 1989 to mark 35 years since the introduction of the Les Paul Custom in 1954, this 35th Anniversary model draws heavily on the look and feel of the late â50s examples.
This model features a solid mahogany body with no maple cap, paired with a one-piece mahogany neck and a bound ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Aesthetically, it has all the hallmarks youâd hope for: multi-bound top and headstock, gold hardware, single-ring Kluson-style tuners and the distinctive â35th Anniversaryâ inlay set into the split diamond on the headstock.
The middle and bridge pickups are correct PAT-stamped Gibson humbuckers for the period, delivering that familiar late-â80s Gibson voice with clarity, punch and plenty of output. The neck pickup has been replaced with a Burstbucker Pro, which offers a slightly more modern PAF-style response with a touch more bite and articulation. The cover has been removed from the middle pickup at some stage leaving some slightly messy solder.
The neck has a comfortable medium C profile, with a nut width of 43.7mm and depths of 21mm at the 1st fret and 24mm at the 12th, making it an easy and familiar feel in the hand. At 4.88kg it has that reassuringly solid Les Paul Custom weight, contributing to its sustain and overall tone.
This example is in excellent condition, and comes complete with its original Gibson case and tags. A great opportunity to pick up a slightly under-the-radar anniversary model with plenty of character, both sonically and visually.
