1958 Gibson Les Paul Junior, Sunburst

Introduced in 1954 as a straightforward workhorse with a single P-90 pickup, slab mahogany body and simple wraparound bridge, the Junior quickly gained a reputation for delivering unfiltered Les Paul tone at a fraction of the price of the Standard and Custom models. In 1958, the Junior underwent a major change when Gibson switched to a double cutaway body, making this example among the very last of the original single-cut incarnation.
This guitar shows a vibrant Sunburst finish over its solid mahogany body and neck, paired with a rosewood fingerboard. The sunburst remains rich and striking with very little fade, complemented by attractive lacquer checking across the surface. Overall condition is excellent, with only minor dings, light buckle wear on the back, and small edge chips to the headstock. The silkscreen logo is intact, the serial number remains bold, and the guitar retains a clean, authentic look throughout. Importantly, it is completely original with no modifications or changed parts, a rarity for a working instrument of this vintage.
The big neck profile is classic 1958 - full and substantial in the hand, but offering a natural supportiveness that makes it as comfortable as it is solid. Tonally, the single P-90 pickup delivers the raw, punchy and direct voice that made the Junior a legend, full of bite when pushed but wonderfully responsive to the player’s touch. Acoustically it rings out loudly with excellent resonance - a reflection of the quality tonewoods used at the time, that have no doubt improved with age.
This guitar comes housed in its original crocodile cardboard case, still in good shape but with a replacement DIY handle.
For the collector, this represents an excellent opportunity to get a clean, original example of one of the last single-cut Juniors made before it's redesign. For the player, it’s a pure and unapologetic rock ’n’ roll machine that is incredibly rewarding to play!
