1966 Gibson SG Standard, Bigsby, Cherry + OHSC
Super rare 'Angel Wing' small guard, Gibson SG Standard from 1966. Probably one of the very last small guard SG Standards to be made, in amazing original condition with no breaks, repairs or finish issues anywhere complete with its original black/yellow hard case.
By 1966 most SG Standards would have been switched over to the large 'bat wing' guard but this one is a true transition model. It las the later 60's elongated neck join but does not have the exaggerated slim taper profile late the late 60's SG's had. Even though it is a narrow nut, the neck still feels reasonably chunky and very comfortable to play.
The original factory Bigsby is a joy to use and hold its tuning and stability really well, in fact one of the best we have come across so you need not be afraid to use it!
Condition wise it is really really nice. It has been used but not a lot and aside from the usual dings here and there it is in quite remarkable condition. All hardware and electrics are original with the exception of one saddle which we have replaced with a period correct original. The original, collapsed saddle is included in the case. Case is original but typically of this mid 60's Gibson, black case era, the rubbish plastic handle has broken off.
No breaks, no stress cracks and totally original finish make this probably one of the nicest original examples around.
Frets have lots of life left in them and the action is nice and low. It is a real joy to play.
A pretty rare guitar. Not sure when we will see another like this...
