1959 Gibson ES-330TD, Sunburst + OHSC
An outstanding 1959 Gibson ES-330TD in Sunburst - first year of production and easily one of the nicest examples we’ve seen in some time. As the ES-330 was introduced in the late Summer of 1959 very few of these have the sought after classic 1959 neck profile and this is one of them. Comfortably full, but not too much so...
This guitar has remained mostly original over the years with only a few minor changes: an added strap button to the heel as these originally came with just a single strap button by the tailpiece. Otherwise, it’s all stock, including the black dog ear P-90 pickups which sound superb - full, articulate and rich with dynamic range that responds really well to touch.
Spec includes single line Kluson tuners with round buttons, nickel raised diamond trapeze tailpiece, ABR-1 no-wire bridge, S-prefix serial number and original Lifton 5 latch brown/pink case.
Cosmetically, it’s been lightly played and enjoyed, showing light surface wear, the odd ding and scratch, and some lovely lacquer checking that all adds to its vintage character. Easily a solid 8.5/10 - clean, but with enough wear to show it’s been loved and played.
The overall build reflects Gibson’s golden-era craftsmanship at its finest. This is a beautifully preserved, vibey ‘59 330 with the neck feel, tone and look that collectors and players alike are chasing. A stunning example complete with original brown Lifton hard case.
