1968 Gibson Hummingbird, Sunburst

An iconic design and a well-preserved example of Gibson’s legendary square-shouldered acoustic. Finished in its original cherry sunburst, the lacquer shows no signs of overspray or touch-up, and the guitar retains all of the classic Hummingbird visual cues that define the model.

Construction is exactly as expected for the period, with a spruce top framed by multi-ply binding and paired with mahogany back and sides. The bound mahogany neck features the narrower 1 9/16" nut width typical of the era (approximately 39.7mm) and carries a rosewood fingerboard inlaid with split parallelogram markers. The guitar has been refretted at some point, but the original nut remains in place, and overall playability is excellent, with a comfortable, familiar, slim feel right up the neck.

Hardware and appointments are correct throughout. The guitar is fitted with its original gold-plated Kluson double-line tuners with keystone buttons, and the original screwed-down Hummingbird pickguard remains intact. The rosewood bridge appears correct but looks to have been removed at some point, likely for routine maintenance. It has an adjustable plastic saddle that contributes to that familiar compressed sound with ringing high's heard on so many records.

Condition overall is good. There are no breaks or repairs, and aside from the refret, some routine maintenance and an added strap button to the heel, the guitar has been left largely untouched.

A lovely example complete with its original orange-lined hard case.
