1966 Fender Precision Bass, Burgundy refin
Transition-era 1966 Fender Precision Bass in a very cool albeit non-Fender colour burgundy refinish. Retaining it's correct grey bottom pickups and much of it's hardware this is a great sounding bass and a very good opportunity to acquire vintage tone character and feel for not far off Custom Shop money!
The refinish itself is neatly done and we think the dark burgundy looks great against the tortoise (non-original) pickguard. There are traces of white paint in the pickup cavity and neck pocket indicating it was white in a previous life.
The rosewood fingerboard features pearl dot inlays and appears to retain its original frets that have decent life left. The neck is stamped Sept ’66, with a comfortable medium C profile that feels immediately familiar in the hands.
Hardware across the bass appears original and correct, including the open-back tuners and the chrome-plated bridge with threaded saddles. The stackpole pots carry matching codes consistent with late 1966, the solder joints are tidy, and the wiring remains cloth-covered throughout besides an added green plastic ground wire running to the jack socket. The pickup itself appears fully original, with ink dates of 10-28-66.
This is a bass that will appeal strongly to players looking for a real vintage instrument they can use without fear. Comes in a non-original hard case.
